Santorini Island

The island of Santorini, which is in fact a complex of islands, came into existence after intensive volcanic activity. The last big volcanic eruption, occurred during the Minoan Age, caused the collapse of volcano’s central part creating a large crater, known as Caldera. Today, Caldera, the balcony of Santorini, is famous worldwide for its settlements of unique architecture, beauty and amazing view of the volcano.

Arriving at the island you’ll certainly pass through Fira, the main town of Santorini, built on the edge of a cliff 300 meters above the sea. Follow the Caldera northwards, to the neighboring village of Imerovigli and explore a path full of hidden chapels, arching doorways and stunning views along the way. The final spot you shouldn’t miss is Oia, the village known worldwide for its magical, breathtaking sunset. Make sure you found a good sunset spot and let yourself surrender to the irresistible charm of the landscape.

The land of Santorini, with its magical touch, gave its own mark on the international gastronomic map. Don’t miss the chance to taste the famous fava (local PDO product), the delicious cherry tomatoes, the unique white eggplant, and the spicy goat cheese.

Finally, if someone looks for the traces of ancient vineyards, his steps will definitely lead him to Santorini. The vines, grown in the precious black volcanic soil, offer some great varieties of whites, like Assyrtiko, Athiri, and Aisani, as well as the special, red, dessert wine Visanto, made from sun-dried grapes.
